Why Should You Care About ALK+ Lung Cancer?

ALK-positive (“ALK+”) lung cancer is a non-smoking, non-preventable type of lung cancer.
It is caused by a genetic mutation in the DNA resulting in uncontrolled cell growth.

01

It can’t be prevented

ALK+ is a non-smoking lung cancer and there are no known causes.

02

Young lives are cut short

Many patients are in their 30s and even 20s, and 90% are diagnosed after the cancer has spread (Stage IV).

03

Current treatments stop working

ALK+ lung cancer develops resistance to all existing therapies.

04

Breakthroughs are happening

Innovations have extended life expectancy 6x since 2015 and promising research continues.

05

It is underfunded

The unfortunate stigma around lung cancer and smoking means all lung cancer research is severely underfunded.

We are at a tipping point in making ALK+ lung cancer a chronic or even curable condition. More help is needed

Get Involved

Founded in 2024, the Sweat For Breath Foundation aims to extend and improve the lives of people with ALK+ lung cancer–a non-smoking, non-preventable lung cancer. With your support, we are raising funds for cutting-edge research and patient support programs and promoting awareness of this disease.

Faces of ALK+

Lung cancer often carries a stigma because of its connection with smoking, which negatively impacts funding and the experience of many people with lung cancer. We want to change that because nobody deserves lung cancer.
